# Superwall: Subscription Infrastructure for iOS, Android, and Web

Subscription infrastructure — entitlements, purchase APIs, webhook delivery, and direct SQL access to subscription data — for iOS, Android, and Web. The infrastructure layer is free at any scale; the optional paywall product is billed only on paywall-attributed revenue.

## Pricing

- **Infrastructure: free at any scale, every plan.** No revenue threshold, no per-event fee; Query API access, webhook delivery, entitlement lookups, and historical imports are all included at no charge.
- **Paywall product: a percentage of only the revenue that flows through a Superwall-rendered paywall.** Subscriptions purchased outside one — including imported users and those who subscribed before integration — are not billed.

Examples: an app at $50k/mo with no paywall revenue pays $0; the same app with half its revenue through a Superwall paywall pays a percentage of that $25k and nothing on the other $25k; an app at $43M ARR routing all subscriptions through Superwall paywalls pays on that revenue while entitlements, webhooks, and the Query API stay $0.

## Scale

$1.5B+ annual subscription revenue across 10,000+ apps. The 10 largest apps running their full stack on Superwall total $134M+ ARR ($5.7M–$43.7M each). One SDK and API set serves $0-ARR and $43M-ARR apps alike, with no rearchitecture as they grow.

## Infrastructure capabilities

- **Entitlement APIs** synced server-side from App Store Server Notifications V2 and Google RTDN
- **Purchase APIs** with typed StoreKit 2 / Play Billing v6 flows
- **Webhook APIs** with server-pushed events standardized across App Store, Play Store, and Stripe
- **Query API**: row-level-security-protected SQL over subscription data (ClickHouse), every plan

Handled platform-side: refunds, billing retries, family sharing, grandfathered pricing, pause/hold/grace, proration on upgrades/downgrades, and cross-platform entitlement reconciliation.

## Migration

Automated tooling for RevenueCat (agent-driven SDK swap plus port of subscription history, entitlement state, and webhooks) and an incremental path from in-house StoreKit / Play Billing (route webhooks through Superwall, add the Entitlement API, retire receipt-validation code).

## Paywall product (optional, separately billable)

One web-standards runtime renders paywalls on iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, Capacitor, Unity, and Web, preloaded and cached on-device for instant presentation. Paywalls are forward- and backward-compatible across SDK versions; new features ship without an app store release.

## Architecture

Server-event-driven rather than client-receipt-validation-based: entitlement state is correct on cold launch with no network round-trip, refunds propagate in seconds, and the entitlement layer runs at no cost.

# Offer Codes, Promo Codes and Discounts

What Superwall supports for App Store offer codes, promotional and win-back offers, Google Play offers and promo codes, and Stripe discount codes on paywalls.

Stores and payment providers each have their own kind of discount code. Superwall supports some of them fully, tracks others, and can't apply some at all. This page says which is which, so you can pick the right approach before you build a promotion.

## At a glance

| Discount | Apply it from a paywall | What Superwall does |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| [Stripe promotion codes](#stripe-promotion-codes) | Yes | A paywall's **Apply Discount** action validates the code and checks out at the discounted price. |
| [App Store introductory offers](#app-store-introductory-offers) | Yes | Shown and applied automatically. On iOS you can also override who's eligible. |
| [Google Play offers](#google-play-offers) | Yes | Pick a specific offer, or let Superwall pick the best one, per product. |
| [App Store offer codes](#app-store-offer-codes) | No | Purchases made with an offer code are tracked and labeled as offer codes. |
| [App Store promotional offers](#app-store-promotional-offers) | No | Tracked. Superwall can offer them on Apple's cancellation sheet with Apple Retention Messaging. |
| [App Store win-back offers](#app-store-win-back-offers) | No | Tracked and labeled as win-back. |
| [Google Play promo codes](#google-play-promo-codes) | No | Purchases made with a promo code are acknowledged so Google doesn't refund them. |
| [Your own referral or promo codes](#your-own-referral-or-promo-codes) | Yes, with your app | Your app validates the code, and Superwall shows the paywall with the discounted product. |

## Stripe promotion codes

For paywalls that sell Stripe products through [Web Checkout](/docs/web-checkout), add a text input and a button with the **Apply Discount** tap behavior. Superwall checks the code with Stripe, and if it's valid, re-prices the paywall's products and applies the code when the user checks out. Variables such as `discountedPrice` and `hasDiscount` let the paywall show the new price.

* It works with the promotion codes you create in Stripe. You don't need separate discounted products.
* It applies to Stripe products only. The action is offered on paywalls for Stripe and web apps.
* The code is applied in redirect, embedded and elements checkout, and with Apple Pay.
* Stripe's own promotion code field isn't shown on Superwall's hosted checkout, and a link can't fill in a code. Users enter it on the paywall.

See [Discount Codes](/docs/web-checkout/web-checkout-discount-codes) for the setup.

## App Store introductory offers

Introductory offers, such as a free trial or a discounted first period, are set up on the product in App Store Connect. Superwall shows them to eligible users and the App Store applies them at purchase. On iOS, you can also offer them to users who've already had one, or hide them, per paywall. See [Free Trials and Introductory Offers](/docs/dashboard/guides/free-trials) and [Overriding Introductory Offer Eligibility](/docs/ios/guides/intro-offer-eligibility-override).

## Google Play offers

Each Google Play product in Superwall can use a specific offer on a base plan, let Superwall pick the best offer the user is eligible for, or use no offer. Superwall passes the chosen offer to Google Play at purchase. See [Google Play Offers](/docs/dashboard/products#google-play-offers).

## App Store offer codes

A paywall can't redeem an App Store offer code, and the SDK doesn't open Apple's offer code redemption sheet. Users redeem offer codes in the App Store, or in your app if you show Apple's redemption sheet yourself.

When a user subscribes with an offer code, Superwall still tracks it:

* On iOS 17.2 and later, the SDK reports the subscription's offer type as `code` in `SubscriptionTransaction.offerType` (iOS SDK 4.11.0 and later). See [SubscriptionTransaction](/docs/ios/sdk-reference/SubscriptionTransaction).
* [Webhooks](/docs/integrations/webhooks) include Apple's offer identifier in `offerCode`. It holds whatever identifier Apple reports for the offer, and doesn't say which kind of offer it was.

## App Store promotional offers

Superwall can't apply a promotional offer to a purchase from a paywall, and promotional offers aren't available as paywall product variables. Subscriptions bought with one are tracked with the offer type `promotional`.

[Apple Retention Messaging](/docs/integrations/apple-retention-messaging-campaigns) is the exception: Superwall can offer a promotional offer on Apple's subscription cancellation sheet, and signs it for you.

If you use a [purchase controller](/docs/ios/guides/advanced-configuration), your code makes the purchase, so it can apply a promotional offer itself.

## App Store win-back offers

Superwall can't show or apply a win-back offer from a paywall. When a user resubscribes with one, the SDK reports the offer type as `winback`.

## Google Play promo codes

A paywall can't redeem a Google Play promo code. Users redeem them in Google Play. Since Android SDK 2.8.5, the SDK acknowledges any purchase it finds unacknowledged, including ones made with a Play Store promo code, so Google doesn't refund them automatically.

## Your own referral or promo codes

For codes your own system issues, such as referral or influencer codes, your app validates the code and Superwall shows the right paywall:

* **Collect the code on the paywall.** Add a text input, and a button with a **Custom Callback** action that sends the input's value to your app. Your app validates it and returns success or failure, and the paywall branches on the result. Custom callbacks need iOS SDK 4.12.10 or Android SDK 2.7.0 or later. See [Custom callbacks](/docs/ios/guides/advanced/custom-callbacks).
* **Show the discount.** When the code is valid, register a placement for a campaign whose paywall has the discounted product. The discounted product has to exist in App Store Connect or Google Play.

For a full walkthrough, see [Using Referral or Promo Codes with Superwall](/docs/dashboard/guides/using-referral-or-promo-codes-with-superwall).
