Why are my trials still showing as pending after they should have converted?

Understanding Pending Trials

A trial counts as pending in campaign results until the store reports an outcome: a paid renewal (Trial Conv's) or an expiration (Trial Expires). If a trial stays pending long after its period should have ended, the store has not sent that outcome yet.

Trials with a billing issue are not pending

When a user's charge fails (for example an expired card or insufficient funds), the store sends a billing issue event. Campaign results count that trial under Trial Billing Issues instead of Trials Pending, and leave it out of projected metrics. See Understanding Experiment Results for how the four trial columns relate.

Billing Retry Period

Apple doesn't immediately cancel a subscription with a billing issue. Instead, Apple will retry billing for up to 16 days. During that time the trial stays under Trial Billing Issues. When the retry succeeds the trial moves to Trial Conv's; when it fails for good the trial moves to Trial Expires.

Billing Grace Period

Your billing grace period setting in App Store Connect affects how long users stay in billing retry. This is configurable and can be tuned based on your preferences.

Stripe

Stripe does not send an expiration after a failed charge, so a Stripe trial with a billing issue stays under Trial Billing Issues until the customer updates their payment method or you cancel the subscription in Stripe.

What You Can Do

  • Check App Store Connect — Review your billing grace period settings and adjust if needed

  • Expect some delay — It's normal for server-reported outcomes to arrive a little after the trial period ends

  • Wait for resolution — Most billing issues on Apple and Google resolve within 16 days as either converted or expired
